After having an steady 2009/2010 we are starting to get into the wedding season and 2010/2011 is proving to be are busiest year to date, so if you are planning your wedding in 2010 or 2011 don't lose any time to find out if we are available to photograph your special day!

Below are a few photographs of a lovely family that I photographed recently, it always makes my job a lot easier if the younger members of a family are enthusiastic and Hettie and Dylan certainly were very keen, and of course this helps mum and dad relax and enjoy the experience!

Targetdry Pictures

Hi again

Here are some photographs from a recent commercial photoshoot. The client was Targetdry, an outdoor clothing manufacturer based in east Belfast. They specialise in packaway jackets, hiking jackets, equestrian clothing and over-trousers. The client specified that the jackets had to be realistic and look as if someone was actually wearing it, rather than being photographed on a hanger. Some of the results are shown below.

This week I became a member of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers. So now I will be working towards gaining some professional qualifications.

Also here are a few photographs from a pre-Christmas photoshoot. Matt and Rosemary with their two children Abigail and Jessica. They were all really great to photograph and the girls had lots of fun, as well as sweets! This was also my last shoot that I photographed before I got my new 24-70mm, f/2.8 lens. I will post some photographs that I took with my new lens in the next few weeks.

Ulster Historical Foundation Photographs

Last month I did a some work for the Ulster Historical Foundation.The Ulster Historical Foundation is a long-established, highly reputable research and publishing agency. It offers extensive knowledge on the sources available for tracing Irish and Scots-Irish ancestors. Services include online databases of over 2 million records, genealogy and history books, and personal ancestral research.

They are completely self funding and held a fundraising dinner in Hillsborough Castle. Below are just a couple of the famous faces who were at the dinner.

In the first photograph is Dame Mary Peters with Sir Jonathan Phillips and Sir William Hall and in the second is UTV newsreader, Kate Smith with Chef husband, Michael Deane and Ulster Historical Foundation Chairman, Denis Desmond.

In the photograph below I was asked to photograph Environment Minister, Edwin Poots and Jean Kelly, author of "Charlie Crow Sorts it".

Welcome to a New Year! 2009 was an exciting year for me as the business continued to grow at a time when the economy was in recession, I opened my new studio and we welcomed Tilly Vaughan into the family. Hopefully 2010 will be another year of steady growth.

Below are a few photographs from a photoshoot that took place towards the end of 2009, they are of 4 year old Darcy who had lots of fun and smiles the morning we took the photographs.

Hi again, I've had a bit of a break recently celebrating Christmas and the birth of our first child, a beautiful baby girl called Tilly. I was able to photograph little Tilly when she was just 1 month old and here are a few of the photographs from that session.

Here are a few photographs that were inspired by the work of Helen Bartlett, an London based child photographer. I attended one of her workshops back in February and was inspired test myself with an on location photoshoot, rather than the safety of the studio.

The idea was to capture the children in a natural and comfortable surrounding. I chose to make the photographs black and white, as that is the style that Helen uses and it also simplifies the images as play-parks are full of distracting colours and shapes.

For this set of photographs I used a Canon 50mm prime lens, with an aperture of between f/2 and f/2.8 to blur out a lot of the detail in the background.

Larchfield Wedding

Hi again, two posts in one day!

This post shows a selection of wedding photographs from a July wedding which was held in Larchfield Estate. It really is such a lovely setting for weddings, the gardens are fantastic and the staff really do all they can to be helpful.

As you can see from the photographs I try to capture the smaller details from the special day. With this wedding, as with all my weddings, I took the bride and groom away into the lovely gardens on their own for 20-30 mins, so that they could spend more time with their guests. I tried to keep photographs fun and casual unless the couple are comfortable with more formal, posed shots.

Successful Charity Open Day

First of all a BIG thank you to all those who helped support Marie Curie Cancer Care on Saturday 3rd October. We had over 40 people turn up and I can't thank you enough for your support.

Secondly we raised over £300 even though we were nearly blown away with the strong winds!

Finally here is a picture of everyone who helped organise the day.

Charity Fun Day - 3rd October 2009

Keep Saturday 3rd October free as Andrew Vaughan Photography is having a charity open day with proceeds going to Marie Curie.

The fun event will take place from 1pm until 3pm and there will be a range of craft stalls, face painting, cake sale, photography and the first 50 women to attend will receive a delicious cupcake. Why not bring a family member or friend along with you.

You will also have the opportunity to view the recently opened photography studio. Below is a map of how to get to the studio.

Anniversary Shoot

I had a really fun photoshoot a couple of weeks ago, four really happy children. It was for a 40th wedding anniversary present and below are a selection of pics from the shoot.

I always try to make my photoshoot fun, especially for kids as they usually don't want to sit in one place for too long, I also try to photograph them at their level and try to come up with interesting or unique poses. When the children are happy and having fun, it comes out in the photographs.

Belfast Castle Wedding

After a busy few weeks for me, weddings, portraits and holidays I'm getting round to updating my blog. My holiday was spent in Mallorca, I had a really relaxing time, which isn't normally my kind of holiday as I like to be busy, though I did take my laptop with me just to do a little bit of work everyday.

Anyway back to Northern Ireland, here are a few photographs from a wedding which was held at Belfast Castle. The atmosphere was very relaxed and bride and groom were an absolute pleasure to work with.

Peter and Sarah's Engagement photoshoot

It has been a busy few weeks so I haven't had much time to update my blog, apologies. To make up for it I'm going to upload a few pics from my last few shoots.

Firstly here are some photographs from a photoshoot a few weeks ago. Peter and Sarah are getting married in July and I needed a suitable picture for the 'Signature Engagement Portrait'. This portrait will be displayed at their reception and will have a sufficient mount around it so that guests can leave Peter and Sarah their own special message on their special day next month.

As you can see I've tried to make this as much fun for the happy couple to get them relaxed and to get the best results.

Hello again, here are some photographs from Colin and Sarah's wedding day. The service was in Castlerock Presbyterian Church, followed by a quick visit to the lovely beach at Castlerock, Mussenden Temple and the reception was held in the Gorteen Hotel, Limavady. The weather was perfect and I was able to get some really excellent shots of the happy couple.

Exciting developments this week, I finally installed my studio lights, backgrounds and a few other bits and pieces today. As well as getting a lot of the studio dressed I also had my first shoot in it, little Joy who is only 4 months old. She really was the ideal model, lots of smiles and giggles. I'm really pleased with the photographs from the shoot and the space and extra equipment that I now have. I'll upload a few photographs from the shoot when I get back from Donegal on the 18th and maybe a few pictures of the studio.

Studio update & Pics of the Mournes

I thought that I'd give you an update on how the studio is coming along.

This week the electric is going in, sockets, interior lights, exterior lights and anything else electrical that I may need. Then the floor can be varnished and finally we can start moving in all the equipment and furniture that is needed. I'm taking a week off over Easter and will be back on Saturday 18th April.

In the mean time I've a couple of photographs taken at the Blue Lough in the Mourne Mountains.

Here are some of the best photographs from my last photoshoot. As some of you will know I'm on a bit of a hiatus at the moment as I'm working towards getting my new studio opened after Easter. So this was a rare outing and a pleasant break away from manual labour.

Faith and her family were due to come and get their portraits taken but due to the heavy snow we experienced in Feb they weren't able to, so we rescheduled and these are the results.
